Laughing Mermaid is inspired by the 19^th century French master, Jean-Baptists Carpeaux and the modern works of director Guillermo del Toro. I wanted to evoke an emotion in sculpture to shed a merry light on what has been a dark couple of years for all of us. I couldn’t help but grin as I imagined this mermaid cracking a smile upon hearing a clever witticism from another aquatic friend. I hope she makes you smile too.
