“I spent my youth in the heart of hurricane country, the east coast of North Carolina.  From June until December, everyone I knew kept an emergency kit in their upstairs closet and had at least one cocktail recipe should the storm make landfall.  Flooding was a given, as was the eventual receding of the water.  This piece is about the resiliency of folks that face every September with an eye toward the ocean, but their hearts ready for the returning light.”
